BIJL PR SUPPORTS LAUNCH URBAN SUN FROM STUDIO ROOSEGAARDE

Inspired by sun light and scientists who researched how a new specific light can safely reduce the spread of Covid-19 to 99,9%, Studio Roosgeraade launched Urban Sun at the beginning of March. Bijl PR was asked to generate more attention for this special project.

Designer Daan Roosegaarde and his team of designers, experts and scientists have taken up the challenge of exploring how the power of light can improve our well-being. Research has proven that far-UVC light with a wavelength of 222 nanometres can safely reduce the spread of Covid-19, unlike traditional 254 nm of UV light that is harmful to humans. Urban Sun shines a circle of this far-UVC light to make a square cleaner from the coronavirus, in combination with current government rules. Urban Sun visualizes hope and wants to counteract the consequences of social isolation by improving public spaces such as cultural festivals, sporting events, and school yards in the future.

Daan Roosegaarde: “Suddenly our world is filled with plastic barriers and distance stickers, our family reduced to pixels on a computer screen. Let us be the architects of our new normal and create better places to meet.”

Strategy
Bijl PR supported Urban Sun’s international press launch. Together with the PR team at Studio Roosegaarde, we created the right strategy, message and timing in order to launch the project as well and effectively as possible. The floating light design has received a lot of interest worldwide. Media from all over the world paid attention to the subject. In addition, the Eurovision Song Contest, Lowlands and Dubai have expressed interest in the object.
