I no longer dream of my former aspiration - becoming a journalist. However, my thoughts still regularly stray to going on that adventure, exploring the world and trying to capture that in words.

Actually, it's quite funny how - despite our dreams - we decide to go follow another path. My academic background in business administration and economics (HEAO) led me down the commercial route. I eventually worked as a management assistant at Unilever. This enabled me to develop myself further and successfully combine a career with family life, in which my two children form the centre. But was I satisfied? No. In time, I wanted more. Something different. Something that would bring out the best in me. So I joined Bijl.

At Bijl, I can develop myself. Your opinion is valued and you are rewarded for your efforts. It is a Rotterdam company that also has a Rotterdam mentality. Bijl takes a no-nonsense approach to work, as do I. Diligence is good for you, as are honesty, sincerity and attention to others: these are my mottos.

In the evenings and at the weekends, I find my release in sport. All I need is a green sports pitch to appear on the TV and I'm hooked. My son, Lukas, star player of the F'jes (youth team) of the VV Capelle football club, can enjoy the fact that I'm his biggest fan. When I'm not enjoying sport, I can have a good time attending a good exhibition, going to the cinema or the theatre, reading a book or listening to music.
