Handling a crisis situation in the boardroom, acting as a spokesperson or carrying out a PR stunt, participating in an animated discussion with a colleague about their plans for the future: never a dull moment at Bijl.
The field of PR and communication is undergoing tremendous development. New media and the changing position of companies in society all makes it increasingly fascinating. You must not fall behind and you have to continue to develop yourself. At Bijl, we try to do that by encouraging and learning from each other. I also try to introduce my own experiences, but my greatest inspiration comes from other people. I never stand still, both professionally and personally. And at home? With my three young boys, I cannot stand or sit still there either.
(To go with the picture of the earth/child)
Communication reduces the size of the world. The entire world is now our playing field, both in our professional and personal lives. Sometimes I have the feeling that we are racing through life. Why not stop and take stock of your immediate surroundings? Talk to your neighbour - and not via Hyves, Twitter or Facebook. Get on your bicycle instead of flying. Look around. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
In a time in which practically everything involves ‘spin', it's still nice, even after all these years, to see the Iraqi Information Minister at work when he was talking about the invasion of Iraq. Communication pur sang... even though the information he provided fell somewhat short of the mark.
