STIVORO, for a smoke-free future, was established in 1974 by the Dutch Cancer Society, the Dutch Asthma Fund and the Netherlands Heart Foundation. Together with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMW), the founders of this organisation are the main financiers of the projects. STIVORO is the centre of expertise for the prevention of tobacco use. The core belief of the foundation's policy is to consider non-smoking as the norm. This is achieved by providing information based on scientific research, developing and implementing smoking prevention campaigns, offering support to quitters, collaborating with other organisations (e.g. Dutch Association of Municipal and Regional Public Health Services), and advising government organisations and other relevant organisations in the area of public health, both upon request and independently.
Bijl supports STIVORO in its media policy, both at corporate and campaign level.
