Gelderland is, in many ways, a highly unique province. For example, it is home to the largest contiguous nature reserve in the Netherlands - De Hoge Veluwe. Gelderland also contains areas with their own unique identity, such as the Achterhoek, the low-lying Gelderse Vallei region and the Rivierengebied region. From a communication aspect, Gelderland is an interesting province.

Bijl has developed a number of communication strategies for the province, including for Vitaal Platteland (Vital Countryside), the Veluwe and for the introduction of the Environmental Law (General Provisions) Act (Wabo). For Vitaal Platteland, a coordinating strategy was written, in which Bijl introduced a new model to streamline the communication, known as the ‘communication dimension model'. Farmers, residents and landowners are now informed in a clear and efficient manner about the many projects currently underway.
